Deep Sea: Arson, Confirmed

Last Fall, I wrote a series of articles concerning the life and demise of the Crab Processor, Deep Sea.

Deep Sea afire, May 13, 2012. Sank later in the day.

These articles were based on my Dad's written account of his experience as Chief Engineer on the Deep Sea in early 1960.

Part 1 - Before the Deadliest Catch:  Back Story
Part 2 - Before the Deadliest Catch:  Saga of the Deep Sea
Part 3 - Before the Deadliest Catch:  The Saga Continues
Part 4 - Before the Deadliest Catch:  Connecting the Dots

I recently learned the Final Report from the King County (Seattle Washington) Sheriff's office, concluding that the fire was caused by an act of arson.

The complete report is well illustrated, and demonstrates the effort required for an "arson investigation."

That is quite a comprehensive report. A coworker - who once worked at the Pike Place Fish Market - states they were unable to get shellfish for weeks after this fire. It would seem the arson impacted many things around Penn Cove.
