Remembrance Day

The author wearing a parachute. Required attire on a "military hop." You don't get this perk on Delta!

I got to chat with some folks up a Safeway today, and made the remark that most people don’t celebrate the true spirit of Veteran’s Day. They do know it is a holiday for many - not all - the population, and there won’t be any mail delivered today.

Before they could answer, I went on to ask them what the difference is between today and Memorial Day. And guess what, they sheepishly admitted they didn’t. But you already knew the difference, right?

Memorial Day, the last Monday in May, is set-aside for Americans to honor those who died in service of the country.

Veterans Day is about everybody who wore or continues to wear the uniform; a very select group of American citizens that have had the opportunity to do that.

And in Canada, Remembrance Day.
