Last night Seattle Channel 5, KING-TV, presented the argument that rail grinding trains are responsible for extensive property damage, and possibly contributed to the death of a farmer several years ago. Last year, homes were destroyed by the Broughton fire, captured on a blurry cell phone video. (See previous posting.)
As predicted, BNSF is on the defensive, acting like a mega railroad would be expected to act.
In this evenings concluding segment, we learn that a recent drop in track side fires attributed to rail grinding may be the result of Skamania County commissioners enacting a new ordinance that imposes fines against grinder crews who start fires.
It may be the only ordinance of it's kind in the nation.
