- I was 14 when I first became interested in railroading back in 1957. My Dad’s posting took the family to Prince Rupert B.C. My “moment of epiphany” came when the engineer on a switch engine invited me up in the cab whilst working a rail barge. Soon I was riding in the cab of Canadian National log, freight, and passenger trains. We moved back to Seattle in 1959. Seattle was a great railroad town with the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Union Pacific and Milwaukee Road to photograph! College, the service, and marriage conspired to diminish my time “chasing trains.” The deathblow was dealt in 1970 with “The Great Merger,” massive renumbering schemes and a bewildering new generation of super power locomotives. I enjoyed an interesting career as a videographer, photographer, researcher, writer, and partner in a full service media production company. Now retired, I have time to open long ago stored boxes of slides, negatives and photographs, and share those memories with you!
